Reading up on the Bug Bounty Policies/programs made me realize how reliable they are. A lot of companies don’t have the most common policies such as the VDPs (Vulnerability Disclosure Policies) that guide hackers to report bugs without getting into legal trouble. Bug Bounty Policies are on the rise in general as they let companies pay freelance hackers to find bugs and issues in their systems. Offering money, setting clear boundaries, and being fast to respond are vital parts of an efficient bug bounty policy. This is also good for small companies if they don’t have the budget to hire full-time cybersecurity staff. Hackers taking part in this aren’t fueled by the motive for money either but for experience or to help which was a pleasant surprise. This is why I thought this was very reliable. It’s expected that smaller companies would use this policy more to their advantage, but bug bounties are for companies of all sizes! In conclusion, the program is to help make the Internet safer with the right rules set in place. We can always learn more about how they can be more polished and effective.
