I recently explored my dream job in the health field through an assignment that helped me identify my ideal career path, the required education and skills, and real-world job opportunities. After completing a career quiz, I discovered that I align with the “Scientist” career path, which reflects my passion for research, curiosity about medical advancements, and drive to improve patient health. This path includes careers like medical laboratory scientist or medical pathologist.

As part of my research, I analyzed three job postings for roles in medical laboratories. These jobs involve analyzing samples, conducting tests, and contributing to groundbreaking treatments. My favorite posting was a Medical Laboratory Scientist position at UVA Medical Laboratories, where innovation and collaboration play a key role in advancing healthcare.

Currently, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science at Old Dominion University while gaining experience through volunteer roles like being a blood donor ambassador. My long-term goals include further education in pathology assistant school or even medical school to deepen my expertise and impact in healthcare.

By building clinical experience, completing the MLS program, and earning certifications like ASCP, I aim to become a skilled professional ready to excel in a laboratory or medical setting.
