From managing schedules to understanding academic expectations, the transition felt overwhelming. However, over the course of the semester, I have grown significantly as a student and as a person. I’ve become more proactive in my learning, reaching out for help when needed and using campus resources like tutoring and office hours to stay on track. I’ve also improved my time management and organizational skills, which has helped me keep up with assignments and balance my personal life. Most importantly, I’ve learned to embrace challenges and setbacks, viewing them as opportunities to grow rather than as failures. These changes have strengthened my confidence in navigating both academic and personal challenges.

Meeting Expectations

While I anticipated a difficult adjustment, especially with workload and independence, this semester has exceeded my expectations in terms of personal and academic growth. I faced the anticipated struggles in writing and research-intensive courses but adapted with the help of supportive faculty, professors, and peers. By engaging with academic workshops and collaborating with classmates, I was able to overcome challenges and achieve progress I initially doubted I could make.

Lessons Learned

If I could go back 14 weeks, I wish I had known how much research and writing would be required for most of my classes, as I could have prepared better for this workload. Time management has been a learning curve for me, and I’ve realized how essential it is to have a system in place to balance coursework, extracurriculars, and personal time. I also wish I had reviewed the degree plan for my major earlier. I didn’t realize how important it would be to take a preparatory course for chemistry to set myself up for success in my major.

Study Habits and Resources

Early in the semester, my study habits were primarily passive, but I’ve since embraced active methods such as summarizing materials, creating study guides, and using flashcards. Additionally, I’ve learned to prioritize tasks based on their deadlines and importance, which has helped me stay organized and focused. Collaborating with peers for group study sessions has also been a helpful addition to my routine.

The Writing Center has been an invaluable resource, significantly improving my clarity and organization in writing. I’ve also discovered the tutoring centers on campus, which I plan to utilize for Chemistry and Statistics next semester. Additionally, I’ve found that attending professors’ office hours is incredibly helpful for asking questions and getting clarification on difficult concepts, and I plan to make that a regular habit.

I plan to continue leveraging these resources and adopt techniques like the active recall and peer collaboration to enhance my productivity and comprehension next semester. For classes like Chemistry and Statistics, I plan to use practice problems and review sessions at the tutoring center to ensure I fully understand the material.

Course Interconnections

The courses I took—History, Psychology, and Intro to Health Professions—shared a common thread in examining social determinants of health. They collectively demonstrated how socioeconomic, historical, and psychological factors interplay to influence healthcare delivery and outcomes. This interdisciplinary perspective has deepened my understanding of the complexity and interconnectivity within health sciences.

Parallel Plans and Career Goals

Exploring parallel majors like Nuclear Medicine Technology and Public Health has broadened my academic perspective and career aspirations. Both fields align with my passion for healthcare and contribute complementary skills to my primary focus. Whether through advanced imaging technologies or addressing systemic health disparities, these fields expand my ability to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

Conclusion

Overall, this semester has been a journey of growth, resilience, and discovery. By embracing challenges, leveraging resources, and exploring new opportunities, I have built a strong foundation for continued academic and personal success.

ZEPHYR-ANORA-DEE-TALA-Final-Reflection-100-Points-1

Growth Over the Semester At the start of the semester, I faced the challenge of adjusting to the academic and personal demands of college life.
