Information technology has called my name from the moment I first ever interacted with a piece of technology. Attending ODU has allowed me to gain the required knowledge to pursue an exciting career in Cyber Security. Being taught the basics of information security and ethics behind actions involving computers, I have been able to elevate myself in the field to explore new topics every day to strengthen my skills against new challenges. As a major of Cyber Security and minor in Computer Science, I have learned to look at technology in a new light by reverse engineering solutions to determine their underlying structure and find any vulnerabilities with the software. After studying at ODU, I plan on pursuing a career in Network Security Engineering to hone my skills on the preventative measures of a network including the firewall, intrusion detection systems, and log monitoring to ensure safety of the network and users utilizing the services. During my internship while attending ODU, I experience enterprise culture and the duties performed by security operations center (SOC) employees and network security engineers to get a handle on the different systems that made up an enterprise network. Following the internship, I was able to work as a full-time employee for their SOC developing automation algorithms and refining the logs coming through to the database. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
