Cyber policies refer to the set of guidelines, laws, and regulations regarding how individuals and organizations interact with cyberspace. Cyber policies are specifically implemented for online content regulation, data security, and privacy. Networks, systems, software, hardware, and individuals collaborate to provide the cyberinfrastructure that enables organizations to operate safely online. The “short arm” of predictive knowledge poses difficulties for the development of cyberinfrastructure and policy. The ability to foresee hazards in the future based on historical trends is referred to as predictive knowledge. Unfortunately, predictive knowledge is limited in cyberspace due to the evolving nature of cyber threats and cybercrime. Governments and businesses must adopt a flexible strategy for cybersecurity.

Developing policies and infrastructures regarding cyberspace should be focused on risk management. Risk management involves identifying potential threats, managing risks, evaluating their impact, and developing strategies regarding cyber-attacks. These hazards could arise from a variety of sources, including cyber-attacks, technical liabilities, managerial errors, and accidents. Businesses must base their policy and infrastructure development processes on the potential risks that can arise.

Investing in a strong cybersecurity infrastructure can improve an organization’s ability to identify and manage risks and increase its resilience against cyber attacks. By developing secure networking, organizations can safely monitor network traffic and user behavior. This enables organizations to gain a better understanding of systems and detect trends that could be indicative of potential cyber-attacks. It is significant for organizations to invest in their cybersecurity infrastructures to enhance their risk management and ensure secure networks are utilized. Developing a strong cybersecurity infrastructure will potentially protect assets, software, hardware, and networks from any cyber-attacks.

Due to the “short arm” of predictive knowledge in cybersecurity, it is crucial organizations take a risk-based and investment-focused approach to developing cyber policies and infrastructures. By adopting these strategies, organizations can better protect cyberspaces and minimize the impact of a cyber-attack.
