They create, put into action, and uphold rules and methods to keep the organization’s information confidential, accurate, and accessible” (Redins, 2024). When it comes to research, these professionals rely on a number of different types. The main types of research that they use are surveys and archival research. As for social science principles, the main principles that information security system managers rely on are parsimony and objectivity
somewhat.

Social Science Research Methods
Information systems security managers rely on research ion order to create new and more effective cybersecurity practice for their organization. For them, surveys and archival research are the best forms of research. Surveying current and past employees can give the manager lots of useful information. The best surveys for them to take are those regarding current cybersecurity practices while at work for current employees and what kind of cybersecurity measure the past employees practiced. This can help the manager get a feel for the current and past practices of employees and how effective they were. It is also good for them to survey employees on how they feel about current practices or if they might have any ideas. While asking how they feel about current practices might not directly corelate to the cybersecurity practices, it is good to get a feel for stuff like that. As for ideas, it is always good to hear people’s ideas on any topic. You never when someone might have a good idea that you might not have thought of at the time. When talking about past cybersecurity practices, archival research is also very important. When coming up with cybersecurity practices for an organization, looking at past practices can give the manager a lot of insight on what the company has already done and what has and has not been effective. This can help the manager avoid repeating any cybersecurity mistakes.

Social Science Principles
Parsimony is very important in the field of cybersecurity, especially as an information systems security manager. When making cybersecurity policies for an organization, it is obviously important to make sure that the policies properly protect the organization. It is also extremely important to make sure that the policies are easily understood by the employees that are meant to practice said properties. The more complex a property, the more likely it is that an employee will fail to properly adhere to it. Also, it will be easier for a new manager to learn and implement/improve the policy if need be. With all this being said, it is important to make sure that the policies are as simple as possibly while still creating strong security for the organization (Hafner, n.d.). Objectivity is also somewhat important for an information systems security manager. When making policies, it is important to take feedback form employees since they will be the ones implementing the policy. However, it is also important to know when some opinions are in the best interest of the organization and its systems. People will always have opinions on any kind of policies. While their opinions are important, there are time where their opinion are only in their best interest and may even be detrimental. This is when the opinions are taken in and addressed while still keeping the cybersecurity of the organization the best that it can be. When making a strong and consistent approach to cybersecurity, objectivity is very important (AlMozaiyn, 2024).

Marginalized Groups and Society

It is difficult to connect marginalized groups to information systems security managers. They deal with the cybersecurity of organizations. The best way I could make a connection is if an organization has policies that directly affect only marginalized groups within said organization. This is when objectivity would come into play. The manager should try to remove any discriminatory policies while still making sure that the overall security remains intact. Information systems security managers have a huge effect on society, just not directly. When managing the cybersecurity policies for an organization, they are not only protecting the organization, but also the people that have information stored by the organization. Organizations like banks are a good example. These managers are one of the most important lines of protection for user/customer data.

Conclusion
In conclusion, information systems security managers rely heavily on social science principles. While some of them may be slight adjusted to fit the cybersecurity framework, they are still generally the same. They also rely on social science research methods to conduct their own research and develop policies. While this is only one of many, all cybersecurity careers rely on the social sciences in some way.

References
AlMozaiyn, M. (2024, October 22).
