Hello! My name is Eileen Belleza and I am a senior majoring in Health Services Administration with a minor in Management. For HLSC 468, I am interning at the Fairfax County Department of Family Services under their Healthy Minds Fairfax initiative.
Fairfax Department of Family Services
The Department of Family Services is a government agency under the Fairfax County Government as is located in Fairfax, VA as well as having several offices all over the county. The Fairfax County Department of Family Services mission is to strengthen the well-being of the diverse Fairfax County community by protecting and improving the lives of all children, adults, and families through assistance, partnership, advocacy, outreach, and quality services. They envision Fairfax County as a community where everyone lives their success story and thrives.
Healthy Minds Fairfax
The Healthy Minds Fairfax initiative is aimed to coordinates a full range of mental health and substance abuse services for children and youth across multiple county agencies, the school system and private treatment providers and improve the quality of those services.
In 2001, a system of care (renamed “Healthy Minds Fairfax” in 2017) initiative was undertaken by the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT) to enhance the community’s ability to meet the needs of youth and families with the most complex issues and highest risk factors.
Preceptor
My preceptor under Healthy Minds Fairfax is Peter Steinberg, LCSW. Peter has a Master’s in Social Work and over 25 years of experience in working in Social Work with a majority of it in children’s behavioral health. He is the current program manager of Healthy Minds Fairfax and his main role is to help create programs and services that focuses on equitable access to quality behavioral health services for children, young people, and their families.
