Hello, my name is Ryan Reaves, and I am currently a student at Old Dominion University pursuing studies in the field of cybersecurity. Ever since I developed an interest in technology and its growing impact on every aspect of modern life, I have been drawn to the field of cybersecurity as a way to both protect and challenge digital systems. I am passionate about learning how systems operate, identifying vulnerabilities, and staying one step ahead of potential threats.
Professional Focus/Philosophy
My professional philosophy centers around continuous learning, ethical responsibility, and problem-solving. In cybersecurity, threats are constantly evolving, and staying current with the latest tools, techniques, and best practices is essential and is my favorite part of cybersecurity. I believe in approaching every challenge with integrity, curiosity, and a strong sense of purpose, understanding that the work I do can help protect not only data but also people’s privacy, livelihoods, and trust in technology and companies.
Career Aspirations
My ultimate career goal is to become a penetration tester for companies. I aim to specialize in identifying and assessing security weaknesses before malicious hackers can exploit them. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled, ethical environment, I hope to help organizations strengthen their defenses and reduce their risk. As I continue my academic journey at Old Dominion University, I am committed to developing both the technical expertise and the ethical mindset needed to thrive in the cybersecurity industry.
