CHIP Staff

Enhance HIP expertise consistently and collaboratively

Identify strengths and opportunities to develop CHIP staff and HIP partners on campus.

  • Encourage individual research (reading established and emerging scholarship/strategies).
  • Identify conferences (share learned info with CHIP staff)
  • Coordinate presentations/ workshops from HIP Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to CHIP
  • Create a HIP admin template to archive and showcase C/HIP Partners work/materials through ePortfolios

Cultivate a HIP culture/awareness; Promote transparency

Create comprehensive HIPs@ODU campus and web presence(s).

  • Develop a “HIPs in Action” webpage (with HIP SME ePs)
  • Share relevant research/outcomes for each HIP (separate HIP pages)
  • Spotlight faculty and students who have engaged in HIPs (videos, bios)
  • Intentionally plan and participate in campus events (faculty orientation, student/parent fairs, etc.)

Increase student and parent awareness of the value of HIPs; Cultivate transparency and communication

Develop messaging that promotes the value of HIPs in connection to student/parent concerns:

  • Research national/local stats in regard to HIPs/Employment/Local & Global issues
  • Use information collected by Student Street Team regarding what students want from each HIP experience
  • Gather feedback from student LeADERS participants about their experiences with HIPs
  • Develop a one-page handout regarding HIPs and Employment
  • Collaborate with Admissions to use HIP information during recruitment
  • Host annual HIP Conference or Showcase

Increase faculty engagement and participation in HIPs

Develop messaging that promotes the value of HIPs in connection to faculty concerns.

  • Host faculty HIP Chats (similar to Student Street Teams)
  • Identify faculty advocates/HIP Fellows
  • Launch and manage Mini-Action HIP grants ($1K)  that promote teaching/learning scholarship
  • Engage LeADERS faculty: awareness, assessment, modifying outcomes
  • Partner with the Center for Faculty Development

Ensure quality of HIP implementation, purposeful alignment, and deliberate assessment

Streamline training.

  • Promote criteria for what defines a HIP at ODU (agreed upon outcomes, HIP taxonomies)
  • Recommend a consistent model of training across HIPs
    • Signature Assignment
    • Modeling Improving Disciplinary Writing (IDW) and eP3: Praxis, Process, and Production (ePortfolio Program)
  • Promote standardized assessment (programmatic/frequent)
