1. Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.
With the development of computers, there have been a myriad of implications concerning the use of tech, both positive and negative.
One big implication is public safety and how computers are used to increase it. While now we have CCTV and surveillance systems that can be seen directly from computers. There are stuff like facial recognition that may help to identify criminals out in public, however, it can be also seen as a negative and against public safety as it can invade the privacy some people wish to have. However, it can be used to monitor and alert authorities if there is any suspicious or unsual activities. And can be used to have video proof of crimes.
On another hand, computers have allowed for people to be able to communicate from across the globe. Allowing for people to expeirience the culture and life of others directly from their own home which is a safe way to experience the world. On the other hand, with the ability to communicate with others from one’s own home, it brings up the problem of anonymity. Having social media and online forums where one can fake an identity, they are less likely to act with the same morals that they have in real life. They can essentially bully and target others online, making it a less safe space.
Computers have allowed for the storing of confidential information, such as business documents, deeds, and more. Allowing for emergencies to not happen. For example, physical copies are bound to physical damage as in house fires or earthquakes. Computers storing these files can make it so that they are not lost. However, with this comes the possibility of being hacked and losing that information or files.
Moreover, with access to the internet and a computer, misinformation can be displaced and with some research, any information can be found. And can debunk any hoaxes or myths.
