Professional Goals

Develop a Strong Foundation for Leading a Healthcare Team

One of my primary professional goals is to develop a strong foundation for leading and managing a healthcare team. As I pursue a career in healthcare administration, I recognize that effective leadership requires strong communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Throughout my internship, I hope to observe how leaders motivate employees, manage organizational challenges, and foster a positive workplace culture. I expect to achieve this goal by learning from experienced professionals, participating in team discussions, and reflecting on leadership practices that contribute to organizational success. By the end of the internship, I hope to have a better understanding of the qualities and competencies necessary to become an effective healthcare leader.

Gain a Deeper Understanding of Healthcare Business Operations

A second professional goal is to gain a deeper understanding of healthcare business operations and the factors that contribute to organizational performance. Healthcare organizations must balance quality patient care, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. During my internship, I hope to learn more about how healthcare-related organizations develop strategic plans, manage resources, evaluate performance, and address operational challenges. I expect to achieve this goal by observing business processes, reviewing organizational practices, and connecting real-world experiences to concepts learned in my academic coursework. Achieving this goal will help me better understand the administrative and operational responsibilities associated with healthcare management positions.

Learn Effective Strategies for Hiring, Training, and Developing Employees

My third professional goal is to learn effective strategies for recruiting, hiring, training, and developing employees within healthcare organizations. Human resources and workforce development play critical roles in ensuring that organizations have qualified staff who can provide high-quality services and support organizational goals. Through my internship experience, I hope to gain insight into employee onboarding, professional development, performance management, and staff retention practices. I expect to achieve this goal by observing workplace training initiatives, discussing workforce challenges with professionals, and studying how organizations invest in employee growth and development. By the end of the internship, I hope to have a stronger understanding of how healthcare leaders can build, support, and retain high-performing teams.

Improve My Professional Confidence and Decision-Making Skills

Another goal I hope to achieve is improving my professional confidence and decision-making abilities. Successful healthcare administrators are often required to make important decisions that affect employees, patients, and organizational outcomes. Throughout my internship, I want to become more comfortable analyzing situations, evaluating potential solutions, and communicating recommendations in a professional setting. I expect to achieve this goal by actively participating in internship activities, seeking feedback from my preceptor, and taking advantage of opportunities to contribute ideas and ask questions. Strengthening these skills will help prepare me for future leadership roles where critical thinking and sound judgment are essential.
