BLUF: The Navy main goal for the future is to have a zero-trust environment.
There are still a lot of old structures that otherwise know legacy systems and plans to cycle them out for newer systems that can better maintain a zero-trust environment. These new systems use security redundancy to encrypt and encrypt more in order secure devices. Additionally, the Navy has implemented ways to move IP addresses multiple times in way that resembles multiple VPN being used at once. Lastly implementation of systems that mask Ip addresses using internal and external router network has become a top priority.
Explanation
Cybercrime attacks have become one of the dangerous threats to the government in this day age due to our reliance on technology as crucial lifesaving research relies on our cyber security. In order to keep up with cyber security demands the Navy is looking to expand enterprise network, up to 20,000 more in the upcoming years. Also, The Navy has implemented and partnered with multiple mail services to help military personnel. Machine that are only built to administrate in order to limit the amount of task one machine allowed to do.
Zero trust environment
A zero-trust environment is a system where there are checks in balance on every level and part of the system with goal of limiting overall permissions and important data to as few people as possible. For example, if your job is just to swipe people IDs you shouldn’t be able to read the Ceo email or change the fire wall settings. The Navy is implementing this through new system and partnering with tech companies such as the creators of star link.
Conclusion
Inconclusion The Navy has been working on ways to encrypt important data, mitigate cyber threats, and expand with new modern systems to create a zero trust environment.
