Prepare to teach courses and find answers to common questions.

ODU’s Adjunct Faculty Handbook (PDF) is your reference for most official policies.

Early Planning

Well before the semester begins, familiarize yourself with ODU’s resources, technologies, and policies.

Preparing to Teach

Focus on your department’s specific requirements and integrate effective teaching standards, as you finalize your content and course delivery preparation.

Ask Your Department if They Use…

  • Pre-set learning outcomes
  • Pre-set student assessments (e.g., department’s midterm or final exam, ePortfolios, writing-intensive assignments)
  • A specific textbook (and how to order it)
  • An existing Blackboard course
  • Student Opinion Surveys
  • Your teaching portfolio (PDF) or an evaluation
  • Departmental procedures for online courses (if teaching online)

During the Semester

As you teach, clarify expectations, engage your students, foster participation, and sustain learning.

Attend New Adjunct Orientation
