CYSE 201S – Cybersecurity & Social Sciences

What are my thoughts about Cybersecurity and Social Sciences?

After watching the video and looking at Cybersecurity in a Social Science lens, I believe cybersecurity is not only about technology, but also about human behavior. There are so many security errors that come from human decisions and mistakes, which also shows why learning social sciences is critical in this field. Looking at this perspective of cybersecurity, allowed me to see that protecting systems and data within those systems also means understanding how people can be easily manipulated or influenced. One common example where we can see people being easily influenced is through Social Engineering, where attackers target human behavior instead of systems. In conclusion, this video gave me a better understanding of how I and others can create stronger security in cybersecurity by being more aware of our behavior, decision making, and how we interact with technology.
