Teaching Effectiveness

In my role as a UTA, I’ve prided myself on promptly replying to student emails regarding course concerns. These concerns have ranged from confusion regarding PSYC 317 material to technical difficulties, and I’m happy to point them in the appropriate direction. I also consider myself an advocate for students with accommodations through the Office of Educational Accessibility at ODU. As I am an example of a successful student with accommodations, I’ve tried to encourage students that there is no shame in utilizing disability-related accommodations that help make getting their education more equitable.

As a UTA for PSYC 317, I struggled most to keep up with tasks without deadlines, particularly proofreading of course materials. For most of my proofreading tasks, I wasn’t given clear deadlines. Although I do well with firm deadlines, I understand that supervisors are also very busy and do not always have the availability to provide them. When such a scenario arises in the future, I will have to be more deliberate about self-pacing and deadline setting. If I had the opportunity to be a UTA again, I would probably begin the semester by creating a schedule for non-time-sensitive tasks so I could better pace myself and make sure things were completed in a timely manner.

I also received feedback on my UTA performance from Dr. Moore, which can be found below.
