My major is Dental Hygiene, and I have wanted to pursue this career since I was young due to a condition that I have called Fluorosis. This condition is characterized by excessive intake of fluorides at a young age, and it results in discoloration and pitting of the teeth. I used to get made fun of because my teeth were yellow and spotty, but my Hygienist was the one who informed me about my situation. I want to be that source of help to others who are struggling to find beauty in their smile. Also, I want to be an educator and promote good oral hygiene to each person I come in contact with because it is highly important!
I am currently a Dental Assistant because I went through a technical program while in high school. This was a two-year program, the first year being book work and learning and the second year giving me a chance to shadow and work in a Dental office! It was a great experience, and I am thankful for the knowledge that I have gained from the program. Although Dental Assisting is interesting, Dental Hygiene is my passion!
