In this collaborative unit I created a plan for instruction with an eleventh grade English teacher at Patrick County High School. The learning environment for this unit of study was taught in the library media center at the school. This space created an area for flexible grouping to accommodate active small group or partner learning sessions, as well as individual activities for reading and problem solving. Together we created a unit with varied instructional strategies that addressed information literacy through inquiry, innovation, and exploration. A plan was developed and taught to teach students to efficiently locate, use, and evaluate information to inform their decision making. Another critical part of the unit was to guide students in their ability to use information ethically and responsibly. The plan was designed to allow students to learn using technology through the use of digital tools and resources while observing digital citizenship. Multiple methods of assessment were used to engage all students in their own growth, to monitor progress, and to guide further instruction.
