Authentic Activity

Attached is an activity that I created based on authentic materials. This activity is age appropriate for young English language learners. The topic of weather allows students to discovers words for images and actual things they see in real life on a regular basis- clouds, the sun, rain, temperature in numbers. This activity aims to have students be able to recognize the vocabulary words presented to them as well as answer and respond to at least one question asked of them regarding a weather report they analyze. The use of the song also provides for a creative and engaging way for students to recall the vocabulary terms while simultaneously working on their sentence structure. These authentic materials are extremely beneficial in increasing the students’ knowledge of the specifics of the target language. This real-world application is one of the core components of my teaching philosophy. Please click on the document to view the activity in its entirety.

Describe the activity you created using authentic materials. Be sure to include the authentic materials (or a link to them), a description of the activity, and reference to the objectives that this activity would meet. You should also make an argument for why authentic activities are a useful tool in language instruction.
