Entry #2: Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.

This was a tough decision because many majors can work with cybersecurity. It all depends on what aspect you focus on. I picked a broad range of majors that include Computer Science due to its close relationship with cybersecurity, but mainly for its programming, Cyber Operations (CO) because it teaches system attack, infiltration, exploitation, defense, mitigation, and recovery, as stated by ODU, which applies to cybersecurity, English because writing is a big part of cybersecurity and Mathematics. After all, all computers use math.

Now, let us go into depth with the majors I chose. Computer Science (CS) majors have to know how to program and program securely. Otherwise, they will create vulnerabilities in their software. Furthermore, CS majors have a heavy math background, allowing them to understand better how computers work. Moving onto CO majors, they are another group of cybersecurity majors but have more of a math focus than an average cybersecurity major. In addition, they also have more low-level programming courses that can be used for reverse engineering or binary exploitation. Next, English. Why would I pick English over another major? What do frameworks, policies, laws, and audits have in common? They all use English, and someone has to write all of them. Frameworks are just giant documents that need a person to write them. English is required for documenting, reporting issues, writing reports, and auditing companies. Finally, I chose mathematics because all computers, encryptions, and artificial intelligence (AI) use math. Encryptions protect data from unwanted eyes and are critical for companies to use on almost all their data. AI is the next big thing, and understanding the math behind how AI works can put a Mathematics major ahead in the job market.

To bring everything together, the four majors I picked are Computer Science, Cyber Operations, English, and Mathematics. They all relate to cybersecurity in different ways, and majoring in one and minoring in another will make us a better candidate in this ever-demanding job market.
