Greetings,

My name is Terrae McCann, and I am a Master of Public Health candidate concentrating on health behavior and promotion. I am currently enrolled in MPH 689 Integrative Learning Experience/Capstone. This website will provide insight and serve as the culmination of my practicum experience. For my practicum, I worked as a Division of Community Programs & Community Partnerships Intern with the city of Chesapeake’s Department of Human Services. My practicum experience was spent working under the Thrives program, which is a community strategy aimed at promoting individuals’ well-being throughout their lives. There are eight focus areas within the Thrives project; I worked in the poverty and economic support sector. The majority of my time was spent on data analysis of poverty in Chesapeake, participating in community activities, and meeting stakeholders. In addition, I have spent a significant amount of time in the community connecting with people through assisting at the regional Chesapeake homeless shelter, Buffalow Family & Friends food drives, mobile integrated health for senior adults, and juvenile community programs. My integrated learning experience provided me with critical information and insight for my future career as a public health professional. As you visit this website, I hope you find some of the same satisfaction that I had and learn about the competencies attained through my integrated learning experience.
