Cell Bio: Course Summary
This course in cell biology helped me make connections between previous coursework in chemistry and general biology, as well as anatomy and physiology. I particularly enjoyed the classes about calcium as an intracellular messenger because of the correlation with cardiac muscle and the EKGs I do at work in the emergency department.
In previous coursework, I felt like I understood specific aspects of cells (organelles, etc.) without seeing how everything fit in the big picture. Now, I understand how the cells maintain homeostasis, form together to create tissues, and eliminate dead and damaged cells to prevent cancer. In the future, I will draw on this knowledge as I further my study of medicine.
