The cell type that I chose to draw is called a neuron, more specifically, an olfactory sensory neuron. While the picture I drew only shows a unicellular neuron, it is actually a part of a multicellular system for animals called the olfactory system. This system of neurons allows an animal to detect important smells, signaling their brain on what to do next. This plays a very important role in an animal’s survival because it’s how they differentiate predators from prey. This is important to my field because of how the olfactory system can affect animals behaviorally while hunting or even sleeping. It can cause them to be sneaky or even wake up from smelling a nearby threat. Overall, the olfactory sensory neuron plays a big part in an animal’s way of living.
