Balancing cybersecurity training and cybersecurity technology with a limited budget.
As a Chief Information Officer of a company that is dealing with a limited budget, I would first observe user activity. The first thing as CIO I would first do a risk assessment. It would be hard to gauge without ascertaining where the flaws lie. I would like to get an idea on what kind of training that is already in place as well as what kind of security measures that are in place. I would like to get an idea of how computers are used and what they are being used for. Observing which sites are visited and observing the overall traffic. Depending on user activity and if there are some suspicious sites being visited or applications being downloaded. I would allocate most of the budget on cybersecurity training and invest the rest in cybersecurity technology. If the company has the bare minimum cybersecurity technology I would allocate more than half of the budget in cybersecurity technology and then use some of the budget for cybersecurity training. I would research the uptick in cybersecurity trends that are known and then allocate the budget accordingly. I think it can be quite difficult when working with a limited budget as opposed to the budget of a larger corporation so balancing that line between upgrading technology and technology becomes a necessity.
