With the new evolution of technology, being added into crimes there comes new ways for crimes to be committed. With technology now being a part of crime it can make it easier and quicker for people to commit crimes. With people not even having to get up from their seats and travel to go and commit online crimes it makes it a lot easier for them they can also have multiple potential crimes going at once like fraud from multiple different computers. They can also make their crimes harder to track and since some of these people might be across the globe it can make them harder to catch.
There is a big gap in cybercrime and what people are learning in mainstream criminal justice research. I think it is because most people still think cybercrime isn’t a big thing or it doesn’t really affect people. Then they see the real crimes where people are seen physically get affected by these crimes and it makes news bigger and people are more interested in it. I think cybercrime needs to also be focused on just as much so people grow aware to it and so it can help make the impact of cybercrimes a lot less I people know what’s going on and what to do to help stop it.
Insider threat is a big thing, and it bridges the gap between social science and STEM disciplines because it combines someone who has authorized access to a certain server or program and they are the ones using it to cause harm to people or the business that is using it.
I think that with the growing rate of cybercrimes there should be a separate cybercrime unit to help handle the workload but i also think that the traditional roles could also help and handle some digital evidence as part of their job. A lot of crimes can target both the cyberworld and the real world at the same time so it can help having multiple people working on it from both fields having some slight knowledge of both fields.
