Skills and Artifacts

Skill One: Technical Infrastructure & System Management

Supporting Artifact One: Password Cracking in Linux and Windows
Brief description: For this assignment I completed password cracking tasks in Linux, Windows, and Wi-Fi environments. In Linux I created two groups, added users, assigned passwords, exported password hashes, and cracked one using a dictionary attack. In Windows 7 I gained a reverse shell with admin rights, created users, dumped their hashes, transferred them to Kali, and cracked at least one with John the Ripper including the MD5 extra credit. For Wi-Fi I decrypted the provided WEP and WPA2 captures, analyzed the traffic, generated the MD5 hash of my MIDAS ID to identify my assigned file, performed a dictionary attack to recover the WPA2 key, and documented the results in my analysis.

Supporting Artifact Two: Basic Network Configuration

Brief Description: For this lab I used a Linux virtual machine to complete network configuration tasks in both NAT and bridged modes. In NAT mode I used ifconfig to identify my IP, MAC address, and subnet mask, viewed routes with route, checked TCP connections with netstat, and sent ten pings to ubuntu.com. I also used host to perform a DNS lookup for odu.edu, viewed and edited my hostname file to match my MIDAS ID, then rebooted to confirm the change. After switching the VM to bridged mode I repeated the same commands and compared the results. I noted differences in addressing, routing, DNS configuration, and visibility between the two modes and summarized those findings in my discussion.

Supporting Artifact Three: Windows Systems Management and Security

Brief Description:For this assignment I listened to Episode 86 of DarkNet Diaries titled The LinkedIn Incident and answered short response questions about it. I explained who carried out the attack, how it happened, what vulnerabilities were used, and how LinkedIn responded. I also discussed the investigation challenges and what the breach taught about strong passwords and cybersecurity. My answers focused on clear and concise explanations based on the podcast.

Skill Two: Risk, Policy & Organizational Awareness

Supporting Artifact One: Case Analysis – Wiring Maury High School

Brief Description: For this project I designed a wired network for Maury High School with two live Ethernet outlets in every classroom and office, all connected to a secure shared Internet connection. I created a cabling plan with length estimates from the equipment room to each telecom closet and calculated the total cable needed. I built a budget that included cabling, RJ45 outlets, wall plates, patch panels, and pricing sources. I also planned and priced the required switches and equipment for each closet and made sure the port count exceeded outlet needs. For security I designed a network with VLANs to separate staff and student traffic and selected a firewall sized for two hundred to three hundred users, including pricing and documentation for all equipment.

Supporting Artifact Two: Ethernet Network Design Project

Brief Description: For this project I created a plan and budget for a secure Ethernet network in a school building. I included two Ethernet ports in every classroom and a secure internet connection for the main office. I calculated cable lengths gathered prices for equipment and made a complete materials list including cabling outlets patch panels and security tools. My goal was to design a realistic and reliable network that fits the needs of the school.

Supporting Artifact Three: Aging of the U.S / Insurance Products

Brief Description: For this project we had to select a topic of health care and describe how it has effect people of all ages. We chose to describe the risk of increasing the prices as well as all kinds of people who could not afford such health care and how that impacts them.

Skill Three: Writing, Literacy & Critical Thinking

Supporting Artifact One: 211c Final Exam – REFLECTION

Brief Description: This assignment requires a 600+ word reflection in first person about how my writing has improved throughout ENGL 211C. I need to discuss how my writing process has changed since earlier courses, show growth using examples from my True Crime and Research Project essays, and reflect on what I do well and what I still need to improve. I must also explain how I developed my research skills, how logic and syllogisms strengthened my arguments, and how these skills will help in future writing and classes. The assignment ends with creating my own original quote about writing or myself as a writer.

Supporting Artifact Two: 202g Final Paper

Brief Description: For this assignment I wrote a research paper about a cybersecurity concern and used feedback from my proposal to improve my work. I explained the issue using at least three strong sources and included details such as scope, scale, and who was affected. I selected two information literacy frames, showed that I understood each one, and then applied both frames to my cybersecurity topic to deepen my analysis. In the conclusion I assessed whether the concern involved moral panic, connected my findings back to both frames, and supported my reasoning with evidence. I also included a properly cited Creative Commons image related to the topic and used high quality sources that were paraphrased and cited correctly throughout the paper.

Supporting Artifact Three: CS462 Report

Brief Description: For this project, I researched and wrote a 1,500-word report on a recent cybersecurity attack, focusing on how it occurred, the technologies and devices involved, and its impact on society. I made sure to use my own words, properly cite all sources, and include working hyperlinks. I avoided AI tools entirely, as required, and took care to prevent plagiarism by clearly indicating any ideas or quotes from other sources. Completing this project allowed me to deepen my understanding of cybersecurity vulnerabilities and their real-world consequences while demonstrating my ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
