Artifact 5 :

This image encompasses personality as a whole in psychology, while also making it very personal as if personality was a stretch on paper. Image: psychologytoday.com

For my final Artifact I choose Module 8, as my number one Archive. I loved this activity; as I was able to take an more in depth look into my own personality. While drawing from past experiences, behavior and self. Taking a deeper dive into my own psyche gives me such a thrill in the study of the mental process and how your mind ticks excites me. To me Psychology is most fascinating subject to mankind. For this Archive I was able to look into some of my past experiences, where my personality didn’t quite fit my everyday personality while taking a more in depth understanding of each sceraniro. Taking this mental dive into my past helped me open my mind to some of the moments in my life that I regret and are ashamed of and understand why I behaved in the manner I had and even gave my psyche some peace. Moving forward I will be able to use the technique to cope or even understand my feeling and emotions of a personality change when a personality change takes place in my future. *Module 8 Archive Below.

Personality in Context

Describe past episodes where your behaviors did not match your personality traits. Describe them in detail, such as how you behaved, what you said, etc. in each episode.

Past occurrences in my life where I seemed to have fallen off my personality scale have been rare. Although the few times I have my behavior was completely opposite my actual personality. For Instance the best example I have of such episode was January of this year. I was a first time mother struggling with balancing full-time mother hood, full-time school, full -time work and many loses in my family. During these many huge changes in my life I worked in surgery in an animal shelter not only did I meet death’s doorstep everyday, day after day my work life was filled with morbid mistreatment and neglect to the various animals that came in and out of our veterinary office. Finally the day came where I had had enough and lost myself. Full of rage and sadness I had the biggest outburst in my life. The stress had finally gotten to me I started yelling saying this is my two-week notice and went to the bathroom to scream and cry, in which I threw my phone at the wall in rage and in need of my some kind of release.

Look at the Table 6.2 (p.132) in the textbook. Which subtraits in the table, do you think, were reflected in your behaviors shown in the episodes?

Upon looking at Table 6.2, the subtraits are anger and denial. Yes, I believe this behavior is reflected in my most recent episodes.

Do you think that we are likely to reflect consistent personality in our behaviors or do you think that context influences our personality?

I think that context influences our personality, Otherwise facing the scenarios and new and old obstacles I faced during this time of my incident I would have never behaved in the way I had I needed to take a step back in my life and understand what was truly important to me in my life.

Visual artifact idea: create a word cloud with the words of the behaviors and corresponding subtraits reflecting the behaviors that don’t match your personality traits; take a picture of the table with the representative subtraits highlighted.

Artifact 4 :

I choose this image as it shows how society stereotypes gender even for children. Image: sites.google.com

As I start heading near the end of my Artifacts one my favorite activities is Module 9 Archive. Ranked my second favorite this assignment allow me to work with a friend in a questionnaire scenario. Me and my partner had to fill in the blanks for the occupation and the gender we thought would most likely correspond with each occupation. Throughout the survey I found it very interesting that my partner and I answers were opposite for most occupations. Although I do find that for many of the male dominated jobs I unconscious choose female for the gender; I would see holding theses types of positions. In the end, I realized this assignment had been one of the most rewarding for me as it helped me understand that my culture, beliefs and ideals of humanity make up my decisions in every life. *Module 9 Archive Below.

Gender Stereotype in Occupation

A variety of jobs are listed below. When you looked at each job, did you think of a male or a female? If it was a male, write “M”, if it was a female, write “F” in each parenthesis.

Interview someone who has a different cultural background from yours. Ask that person to do the same task, and write down the responses.

Compare your responses with those of your partner’s responses. Did you find out similarities and/or differences? Did you find any patterns in your responses? What similarities did you find between your responses and your partner’s responses? What differences did you find between your responses and your partner’s responses?

As I compare me and my chosen partners answers “ Trevor” I found many differences for most of my responses I choose female. Although for some of the jobs considered to be masucline by society Trevor choose male as the roles in each career. For example for doctor, pilot and chef I choose female. In our responses we did have many similarities as we both agreed on some career fields such as dancer, mechanic and lawyer.

Artifact 3 :

A perfect representation of how the cultures can be so different but still completely intertwined. Image: Skillroads.com

As my third ranked Artifact, I enjoyed Module 4 Archive as I compared the five dimensions within culture using Hofstede’s study. In this activity I was able to pick a country outside of North America in comparison to Hofstede’s five dimensions.

They more time I spent researching, I found that most countries in relation to the North America (United States) had many similarities as well as differences. This type of research gave me a sense of curiosity into where the U.S. corresponded with other societies. For this assignment, a comparison chart was also recommend for a visual artifact, this part of the assignment was interesting instead of making one chart for the qualifications of activity, I created multiple. As I made several for my own personal gain to see where some countries of my own interest fell in the five dimensions model. *Module 4 Archive Below.

Module 4 Archive

Part 1

For this particular artifact review Hofstede’s five value dimensions that differentiate cultures (see pages 22-23 of the text). Find your country on the ‘Countries and Scores on Value Dimensions’ PDF (or pages 55-56 of the text). Look at your country’s scores on the five cultural dimensions. How do those scores compare to scores from other countries? How do those comparisons compare to your experiences with people from other cultures?

My which is the United States of America scores range from 29 to 91. My country scores in the five dimensions are a score of 40 in power dimensions and 46 on uncertainty avoidance. Individual collectivism a score of 91. Masculinity/ Femininity 62. Long- Short Orientation 29. The United States compared to other countries such as South Africa and Switzerland had similar scores to U.S. although not many countries scored and where close to the exact scores of United States. The main similarities with scores of all countries lie in the categories of five dimensions power dimensions and uncertainty avoidance the ones that have the least similarities the columns of  long-term orientation. I find it interesting how the United States compared to Singapore and Portugal with uncertainty avoidance are at the opposite sides of the spectrums with scores ranging from 8(Singapore) to 46( United States). My experiences with individuals from other cultures have been enlightening experiences. The knowledge, experiences and way of life of other cultures make me curious; making the effort to understanding their customs, traditions and superstitions can open a world to many new ideas and values in everyone lives. Masculine/ Femininity column scores about the same for other countries such as Ireland and Australia. Although I have never met anyone from Ireland, I have form Australia and the comparison are similar to personality traits, likes and dislikes.

Part 2

Compare your country to a country that you would like to visit by following the steps below:

Visit Hofstede’s webpage:

Click on ‘see and compare country scores’

Select your country

Note the bar graph and review how your country rates on each of the value dimensions.

Click the downward arrow on Comparison Country and select your country of choice. How do the two countries compare on each of these dimensions?

You may want to screen shot or take a photograph of the comparison bar graphs for your visual artifact.

I choose to compare my home country of the United States to Germany. In comparison Germany and U.S. have similar scores when related to Masculinity. Although we are similar in some areas such as Power Distance, We are not quite the same in other areas, Long Term Orientation is far apart in score ranges from 83(Germany) 26(United States). Could this show how the U.S. reflects more on material needs instead of self gratification?

Module 6 Archive is ranked my 4th favorite Top Artifact, as it made me look back into my childhood. I was able to to see the growth and progress I have made since being a child. While venturing into my teens and now to current day adulthood. I was able to put into context the many questions I had as a child about life, realizing over time I answered many of my questions myself. This was a great way for my to start diving into my past and figuring out the the path I choose as a teenager to becoming an adult instead of some the unlikely paths I could have chosen. Also learning why I made the decisions I made and how the shaped me into the person I am today. *Module 6 Archive Below.

Module 6  Archive

This exercise will give you the opportunity to relate your present self to past experiences in your childhood. Take a moment to reflect on the most significant experience in your childhood which helped you form your present “self.” Illustrate that experience by drawing a picture on a large size paper. After you finish drawing, think about whether your individual and/or cultural values are reflected in your picture.

Take a picture of your drawing and write a brief summary of the experience you illustrated and the values it represents.

As a child I would spend my summers with my grandparents I believe this time with them help shape who I am today. Not only did I have time to learn and have my own freedom to discover who I was in nature and through art drawing and painting everyday. I believe my individual values or shown in this picture.

My picture is of myself at my childhood home on Smith Mountain Lake. As a child I loved fall and especially Halloween this is one of my happiest memories of taking our annual costume picture before trick or treating for the night. The values represented this photo is love, family oriented and personal expression.

I choose this image because Its represents my idea of women empowerment perfectly.

For Module 3 ranked as my 5th favorite archive. I particularly liked this archive due to fact I was able to speak about women’s empowerment one of my favorite subjects. This archive opened my perspective on how I should not focus on just women’s rights but also look into women’s rights within all cultures. By understanding each cultures perspectives and/ or views, I can gain knowledge into fields of Women’s Studies I wouldn’t have imagined before. In hopes of my motivations to living in a world less divided by gender, color or race. *Below is my Module 3 Archive.

Locate and take a picture of an object that you believe represents your culture. Discuss the reasons that you selected this item. This item can be associated with categories such as race, ethnicity, nationality, and/or gender. The objective of this task is to illustrate the uniqueness and diversity of culture.

I choose this picture because I believe in my culture femininity and being a female is a trait to take great pride in, as a women we are able to create life, become leaders of our country, educators, athletes, mothers and more. Since the beginning of time women rights has been tested through time from the Salem Witch Trials to Women’s Rights Movement. I find it compelling to see so many women in today’s society and in the past centuries continue to stand together and create a world for both sexes to live in harmony and instead of dividing becoming one. Although some battles have not been won and still ongoing, For instance the right for women to make their own choices about their bodies. Many other barriers we have faced through time have been overcome. Our culture today is so diverse women from all countries and nationalities have come together in support of each other and this can be said for our male counterparts as well. Truly inspiring to see the efforts of equality in all forms come together with love, passion and courage.
