Conclusion

The decision to commit a crime is not a simple one, and the DVD presentation, Set It Off, is a prime example of this fact. The four girls did not decide to commit bank robbery on a whim or by happenstance. In fact, they were the product of the goals and expectations put upon them by a society that could not also provide the means to do so. At an individual level, they were also motivated by factors that weakened their bond to society, increasing their chances of committing bank robbery. Although there is no one all-inclusive answer to why these girls robbed several banks, one can better understand their motivations through these applications of the social structure theory, strain theory, and the social process theory, social bond theory.
