Prompt: Review the articles linked with each individual motive in the presentation page or Slide #4.  Rank the motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense (being 1) to the least sense (being 7).  Explain why you rank each motive the way you rank it.

Motivations that make the most sense:

1 – Multiple Reasons

2 – Money

3 – Political

4 – Revenge

5 – Recognition

6 – Entertainment

7 – Boredom

I think the motive that makes the most sense when committing crimes is a combination of multiple reasons. I believe most individuals would need a couple factors together like money with revenge before actually committing a cybercrime. The second motive that makes the most sense is money. Many individuals either want more money to afford their lifestyle, or they need it simply to survive. Political motives are ranked third because many cybercriminals will want to make a political statement about their own country or a country they consider opposition. Revenge is also a common motive for many individuals, so I believe that should be ranked fourth. This could be revenge against an individual, group, or corporation for personal or professional grievances. Next, recognition is ranked fifth as a motive because I believe that this is only a common motive for script kiddies or those wanting to make a statement rather than gaining anything else. Entertainment is ranked sixth, second to last, because I don’t believe that many cybercrimes are committed solely for entertainment purposes. This is the same reason that boredom is ranked last. I do not think a majority of individuals would commit cybercrime out of boredom alone when there are other options to cure boredom.
