Prompt: Watch this Video: Social media and cybersecurity
Complete the Social Media Disorder scale. How did you score? What do you think about the items in the scale? Why do you think that different patterns are found across the world?
After completing the social media disorder scale, I answered “yes” to two of the questions, meaning that I am not a disordered social media user. Many of these questions felt very extreme regarding social media use, and it is interesting to me that many of these apply to the average person. Social media has become almost completely integrated into people’s lives, but this has come with the cost of many people becoming addicted to social media in an unhealthy way. I think there are various patterns regarding social media use around the world because different countries, or even cities, use it differently. Rural areas are less likely to use social media as much, making it harder for a dependency to emerge. On the other hand, cities are more technologically integrated, making it easier to just get out your phone and check social media for a few minutes.
