How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Workplace deviance was a common occurrence and has been going on before the use of computers. The use of powerful machines in the work environment has created an increase in distractions while are at work. The acts include people not showing up to work on time, taking long breaks, the misuse of resources, and intentionally not putting forth the necessary effort while at work which lowers the effectiveness and production of the company and people who are associated with it. To add on to actions that could possibly slow down the production of the company and the reputation of the company. Some people who work there may have even worse intentions and may look to hurt the company in financial ways. Causing the company to lose large sums of money. Individuals in an information security role are placed in this role with maintaining and securing information. They are to keep this information to themselves and to stay quiet regarding this private information. Keeping in mind the kind of tools are trusted with they have given to them by the organization in order to do their job. Some people might feel tempted to manipulate, steal, or lie about something if the target they seek is worth the effort. This is technology increases the risk of insider threats that work at the organization who are put in specific jobs dealing with private information they are not supposed to use. These insider threats can cause internal damage to an organization, reputation, data, integrity, and more. They also could potentially use this information for their own personal gain as well. If this information is then possibly leaked out it could be a very bad look for the company as they are then forced to try and find the reason as to why private information had been leaked out.
