SURVEY
This following View of Human Nature Survey can be used in conjunction with Neukrug’s book, Counseling Theory and Practice (3rd ed) which can be obtained from www.cognella.com.
The survey enables you to assess your theoretical orientation by comparing how your responses align with 13 well known theories of counseling. When you complete your survey, you will be see which of four schools of counseling theory your responses are most aligned with: Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Existential-humanistic, or Post-modern. In addition, you can see how your responses align with each of the theories within each of the schools. The schools and theories are listed below:
Psychodynamic School:
- Psychoanalysis (Freudian Therapy)
- Analytical (Jungian Therapy)
- Individual Psychology (Adlerian Therapy)
Cognitive-Behavioral School:
- Behavioral Therapy
- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Reality Therapy
Existential Humanistic School:
- Existential Therapy
- Person-Centered Counseling
- Gestalt Therapy
Post-Modern School:
- Narrative Therapy
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
- Relational Cultural Therapy
When you receive your results, you can move your cursor over each of the therapies and see brief descriptions of the therapy. In addition, you can also move your cursor over the school of therapy, and obtain a brief description of the school.
