Module 10 Discussion 10.1

Shakespeare is a well-known playwright and poet from the Elizabethan Era, and one of his many poems is called That time of year thou mayst in me behold. On its surface, this poem is about the changing of the seasons from summer to fall, with a lot of references to death and decay. When you look deeper into the poem, however, it becomes clear that the true meaning of the sonnet is about love. The poem is about how death and decay are an inevitable part of life, but the fact that people eventually die means that their love for each other is stronger. There are many theories as to who this poem was meant for, and many of them conflict with each other. One of the most accepted theories is that it was meant for a young man, but no one really knows for sure who this poem was written for.
