Before reviewing the homework and the problems on blackboard I did not know the major differences between series pipelines and parallel pipelines. In series pipelines, the energy losses are added together because the pipe changes affect all the fluid passing though pipe. In parallel pipelines, the mass flow rate of the two branches are added together and the energy losses of both branches are equal to each other. When given a small amount of information, the energy losses are put into terms of the flow rate and then iterations of the RHL to LHS are made in excel.
