Club Experience
Cyber Security Student Association – Alumni | CS2A is a cybersecurity club that involves all things cyber whether that be collaborations on projects, working on programming and certifications, or discussing new news about cyber events. Due to being tied to my major, CS2A has been critical in helping me learn about events like CyberOps, internship opportunities, and meeting professionals in the field.
The SUMMIT – Alumni | The SUMMIT provides opportunities to shape marginalized groups into better leaders through mentoring, communal events, and tutoring. It gives me the option not only to learn about my peers’ struggles but also to mentor and teach them about different ways they can improve themselves. Additionally, I’ve supported the organization as the previous Academic Chair, taking responsibility for scheduling rooms for Study Hall and E-Board meetings, organizing a “Speed Networking Night” for moderating a panel of students, and maintaining documentation of all meetings throughout my final academic year.
CIVIC Scholars – Alumni | The CIVIC Scholars program is centered around fostering leadership development and getting students involved with leaders across several industries. The organization was actually recommended to me by the founder of The SUMMIT, Dr. Kevin Muchiri, and I don’t regret taking a chance with it. Over the course of a year, I got to learn about professional etiquette, how different leaders navigate the private sector, and networking opportunities. I also got to have plenty of fun events with my peers and their own experiences with leadership.
Society of Physics Students – Alumni | SPS is a physics club that focuses on getting involved with the community at and around ODU. This includes events like Mars Fest, the Air Show, Pumpkin Drop, and opportunities with NASA which allow for big projects and more collaboration. The club is welcoming for non-Physics majors, offers scholarship opportunities, and has given me many long-lasting experiences with its many entertaining events.
Brother2Brother – Alumni | B2B is a club that discusses the struggles of black men and empowers a new form of black masculinity. It provided me with a safe place to engage with peers who come from the same marginalized community.
