Module 4/Discussion CYSE 201S

Victim precipitation can apply to cyber victimization because some online behaviors can unintentionally increase a person’s chances of becoming a target. For example, using weak or repeated passwords, clicking suspicious links, sharing too much personal information, or not using security features like multi-factor authentication can make it easier for cybercriminals to take advantage of someone. At the same time, I think it is important to separate risk from blame. A person may make a mistake online, but the cybercriminal is still responsible for choosing to commit the crime. Learning about victim precipitation can be useful because it helps people recognize risky behaviors and take steps to better protect themselves online.
