CyberSecurity Career Connections

The Cyber Security Career Connections Experience was short but informative for myself. I saw many employers at there tables but Sentara caught my eye. I walked up to the table and the lady began informing me about the company and what they do. She was very nice and told me about their intern program. She said that their intern program wasn’t an easy one to get into. They look for prior experience and or certifications. The job wouldn’t be a quick summer gig. It would take up to a year of interning to then get an opportunity at a full time position. The internship would be one that pays as you work so that was good to know. As I was finishing up thanking her she luckily reminded me about my resume. I gave her my resume and said she will be in touch. The website I looked up for positions didn’t have any openings for internships/entry level jobs but she informed me that they always update and add new positions weekly/monthly.

CyberOps

My favorite part of the conference was when the guy from Assura talked about popular Cyber Security Job Starters. It really explained how the things you put on your resume really affects the type of job you can apply for and be hired. I learned about SOC Analyst, Data Centers, Law Firms, and even Law Enforcement. The one thing that surprised me the most was how much you have to know/learn. It’s only my first year so I don’t expect to know most of the terms used in the cyber security field, but there is a lot more than I thought there was to learn and know. I found the actually hacking and prevention part to be less interesting. I would rather be working in data centers and not really having to write reports and trying to solve problems by myself. Consulting with people about their security also didn’t interest me.
