MGMT 325: CONTEMPLORARY ORGANIZATIONS AND MANAGEMENT

This course was the best of all the management courses I took.  It taught me to think and act strategically and to always strive to provide the best value to customers.  From building a capable workforce to managing and exceeding competition, I learnt that performance is key to having a competitive edge for an organization.  The six performance dimensions will always be on my fingertips as they are key to the success of any manager, leader, or enterprise.  They are: cost, quality, speed, innovation, service, and sustainability. Learning the differences between leaders and managers was interesting because I previously thought the two words were interchangeable in the business world.  There were plenty of assignments to help me understand the concepts.  I wrote a SWOT analysis paper on Kellogg, a fortune 500 company, and a paper on Human Resources practices and their impact on an organization.

During my naval career, I have had the opportunity to be a leader and a manager.  The internship experience also gave me an opportunity to interact and learn from healthcare practitioners and managers and was able to see real-life application of principles learnt.  Taking this course has only made me a more effective leader and will continue to apply the knowledge and principles learnt for the rest of my life.
