After dropping the first two games of the series, the Monarchs bounced back on Sunday with a 6-5 win over the UCONN Huskies. The Huskies opened the scoring in the first inning by way of the longball, with a two-run blast off ODU starter Ryan Sheehy (So.) But it wasn’t long before ODU responded with a solo shot of the bat of Tj Aiken (Jr.) to shrink the lead to one run. That score would hold until the third inning when ODUs Maverick Stallings (Gr.) hit a three-run home run to put the Monarchs ahead. UCONN added two in the eighth inning to come within a run but ODU escaped and salvaged the series finale. ODU improves to 8-6 while UCONN falls to 7-8.
Ben Tanton (Fr.) came away with his first collegiate win throwing three shutout innings in relief out of the Monarch bullpen. Aiken, Stallings, and Zach Leite (Sr.) all had RBIs in the contest and were the bulk of the offense for ODU.
Next week, the Monarchs travel to Greenville, NC (East Carolina University) and Troy, AL. (Troy University) for a midweek game and a three game set. The game against ECU is slotted for a 6pm start on Tuesday, March 10.
