How The Principles of Science Relate to Cybersecurity

There are four main principles of science; Empiricism, Determinism, Parsimony and Objectivity. They each relate to cybersecurity in one way or another. Empiricism emphasizes observation and evidence. One cannot rely on opinions working in cybersecurity. Determinism allows specialists to predict what might occur in cybersecurity, but said prediction needs to be supported by evidence to be considered research. Parsimony relies on simplicity ensuring that security systems are simple enough that authorized users can understand how it works without unnecessarily complex directions. Objectivity is crucial to cybersecurity, because one can not let their opinions change the way they portray their research. The research they collect must be unbiased, and based solely on facts. This ensures that decisions are made from reliable information.
