Immunology was a difficult yet very informative course. There were a lot of important topics that informed me a lot about our immune system but If there was one topic that I was definitely learned a lot from it would be the subject of cytokines. Cytokines are proteins that act as chemical messengers in the body when a pathogen causing infection throughout the body. Their purpose is to alert immune cells and guide them towards the site of infection. Not only do they guide other immune cells, they also regulate inflammation, preventing damage being inflicted on human tissue. Humans definitely should learn more about cytokines and their role in immunity against pathogens. They are a lot more significant and important than we think.
