1. Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

2. How do engineers make cyber networks safer?

Computers have made the world today both safer and less safe. Computers have helped law enforcement with apprehending criminals. The computer databases created help police officers easily identify criminals. CCTV cameras help law enforcement track down criminals by giving visuals on where a criminal is located and allows them to see if criminal activities are occurring. Computers have helped within healthcare. They work to keep patients’ personal information protected so hackers don’t steal it. The medical database makes it easier for medical workers to identify which medicines need to be given to patients, resulting in less chances of mix ups which could cause severe pain or death in a patient. The downside to these advantages of computer use is that attackers can take advantage of it. Hackers with the right skill set could cause a lot of damage to computer databases. If an attacker were to gain unauthorized access to a law enforcement database or medical database it would cause a huge safety issue. People’s lives could literally be at stake. While computers do come with a lot of safety benefits there are however so evil people out there that can use computers to threaten the safety of the world.

Engineers have the skill set to make networks safer. One of the steps engineers take to accomplish this is by monitoring networks and systems for data breaches. They put in place programs to help detect when a breach takes place. They also implement security software to help stop these breaches from causing a lot of harm to a network.
