CYSE 270- Linux Systems for Cybersecurity

Lab 1 – Installing Linux VM

This lab was about setting up a Linux virtual machine. I learned how to install it and get everything running. It was kind of confusing at first figuring out the settings, but once it worked, it made sense.
Overall, I learned how VMs work and why they’re useful, especially for testing stuff in cybersecurity.

Lab 2 – Working with Command Line

In this lab, I practiced using basic Linux commands like ls, cd, and making folders. It took a minute to remember all the commands.
After a while, I got more comfortable using the terminal. This lab helped me understand how important the command line is.

Lab 3 – Working with VI Editor

This lab introduced the VI editor. At first, it felt really weird because it’s not like normal editors.
I had trouble remembering how to save and exit, but after practicing it got easier.
Now I understand how to edit files straight from the terminal.

Lab 4 – Group and User Management

This lab was about creating users and groups. I learned how to add users and assign them to groups.

I learned how systems control who has access to what.

Lab 5 – Password Cracking

This lab showed how password cracking works. It was interesting seeing how easy weak passwords can be broken.
Some of the tools were a little confusing at first.
This lab made me realize how important strong passwords are.

Lab 6 – File Permissions

This lab focused on file permissions. I learned how to use chmod to change who can access files.
The numbers were kind of confusing at first.
Now I understand how Linux controls file access.

Lab 7 – Storage Management

This lab was about managing storage and checking disk usage.
It was a little confusing understanding how everything is organized.
Overall, I learned how Linux handles storage and files.

Lab 9 – Task Automation

In this lab, I worked with automating tasks using scripts or scheduling.
Writing scripts was kind of hard at first.
This lab showed me how automation can make things easier and save time.

Lab 10 – Networking Basics

This lab covered basic networking like IP addresses and connections.
Some of the concepts were new to me, so it took a bit to understand.
Now I have a better idea of how devices communicate on a network.

Lab 11 – Basic Network Configuration

This lab focused on setting up network settings. I practiced configuring things and testing connections.
It was a little tricky making sure everything was correct.
I learned how to set up and troubleshoot network connections.
