Benefits of NIST Cybersecurity Framework

NIST stands for National Institute of Standards and Technology. This institution was created in order to use common language and methodology to manage cybersecurity risks. It is used to compliment an organization’s cybersecurity program. This process helps organizations find out what needs to be strengthened within their programs. The NIST Cybersecurity Framework is divided into three components. They are the framework core, implementation tiers, and profiles. All three components make the framework more beneficial. Profiles are an alignment of organizational requirements. They created a language that is coherent. It allows the organization to have good communication. There are four implementation tiers. They are responsible for describing if any of the organization’s risk management practices are exhibited within the framework. This is beneficial because each tier guides organizations to consider the right level of severity for their program. The framework core is a set of organized cybersecurity activities. The core is divided into three parts with five high-level functions. Overall, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework would be beneficial to anyone working within the cybersecurity workforce. It can be used by big or small organizations. In my future workplace, I could use the cybersecurity framework by using the profiles and implementations in order to budget the cybersecurity improvement activities.
