COVID-19 Information Presentation

I gave this presentation on September 21, 2021, through my workplace, the Portsmouth Health Department. The President of the Eastern Virginia Clergy Association – United Church of Christ (EVA) had contacted a coworker asking if a member of the health department could present at their monthly clergy meeting on COVID-19. I was selected to give the presentation as I work with COVID-19 directly as the District COVID Epidemiologist. After communicating with the President, we narrowed down the topics of interest of the clergy – this was not their first COVID-19 presentation, so we wanted to ensure that I built on topics previously covered. We agreed to divide the presentation into five sections: Background information, how to slow the spread, variants, data and trends, and vaccines. I spent about a month gathering information for my presentation and piecing it all together. I waited as late as possible to pull data, as I wanted to show the most up-to-date information possible. In total, I spoke with the clergy for an hour, a 45-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute question/answer. Additionally, I supplied my contact information to the group so they can reach out with further questions, and some have taken me up on that offer and we have had great one-on-one conversations. Below is the final copy of my presentation that I shared with the group.

COVID-19 Variant Presentation

A second professional presentation I gave was also through my workplace, but rather I presented to our dedicated COVID-19 team on COVID variants. Our team had expressed wanting to learn more about what variants were and how the health department was responding to them, so I tasked myself with putting together a short presentation. I shared this presentation on July 30, 2021, during our COVID team meeting. The main topics I covered were background information on variants, variant labeling systems, numbers in Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Health Department’s variant process, and vaccine breakthrough cases. In total, this presentation lasted about 20 minutes with time for questions at the end. Along with presenting the material, I shared the presentation with the team following the meeting so they could reference the information later on. Below is the final copy of the presentation.
