Reflection Instructions

For this assignment, please reflect on the Fall 2023 semester, and your experience as a whole. For each question, please provide a few thoughtful, well constructed sentences.

Your First Semester

  • Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.

My understanding of the structure of how college classes operate has grown. It gives me insight on how my future classes will be, compared to my understanding of when I first started college.

  • What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.

I expected it to be harder than I’m used to and it was but it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

  • What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?

I wish I knew to talk to my peers to start study groups.

Study Habits

  • How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?

I have spent less time studying now than I have at the beginning of the semester.

  • How have your study habits changed?

Instead of studying many hours of the day, I focus on the information I don’t, compared to the information I do.

  • Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.

I used the study rooms in the library and I will most likely be using those again in the future.

  • What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?

Laying out the information I know, then going back to find out what I didn’t know.

Health Professions Learning Community

  • This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
    • On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which  these courses are tied together.

In HIST 104H we discussed the Army Nurse Corps which I had done a presentation on, and this connects with how the medical field became more established in the military. Through the efforts of the military nurses, discoveries were made that enhanced medical care capabilities everywhere.

Parallel Plan

  1. This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
  • Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?

The only other major that interests me is in athletic training. This is because I want to be incorporated into sports.

  • What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?

This works so that just in case the original plan falls through, you have a backup plan, plus it is also in a career field that you are interested in.

  • How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?

Personally I would love to be an Athletic Trainer because I want to be able to train athletes but I also want to help athletes recover from injuries. In this case, it’s better for me to go for the harder degree now so if I decide to go back to school, I would have a better understanding of what I’m doing. I have no regret going for either degree because I want to do either or, or both.
