Hair salon talks about recreational therapy!!!

Tamara Jackson, she was a recreational therapist and retired. Her education level, she had gotten her Certification in recreational therapy (CRT). We talked about caring for people that had strokes and people that were paralyzed for the most part. She was telling me how she took so much joy into helping people out. She told me her mother was a part of being a nurse and she wanted to become a nurse, but recreational therapy was where her heart was at. Her mother was the head nurse back in the day and that’s what pushed her to being in the nursing field. She wanted to continue her mother’s legacy. She was telling me that she loved working with the people that were disabled and had a stroke. It was the bonding and the patience that she loved the most. Building the trust with the person. Trying to get the people that had a stroke on the back track because some people that are had strokes, partial of their bodies become paralyzed so they try to get them useful, try to make their brain useful to make them overcome their obstacle. Like some of the things they did were art, getting them to express themselves on how they feel, things they like, and more. She said it was rewarding to her not for the money, but to see someone that dealt with something that was horrible to now seeing them being able to overcome their obstacle. She said it required a lot of hours to get them back to where they can be useful again. We were in the zoom meeting she was getting her hair done and she asked was it okay for me to interview her and I said yes long as I got someone that works or worked into the healthcare profession that was the only thing that mattered. It went on for a good 16 minutes. The takeaways from the interviewing was that it was time consuming, it required a lot because she said that she dealt with patience that sometimes had their days and it went by long for the session and she said that it was also great to because once they started bonding it became fun as time went by.
