Digital Literacy

Digital literacy refers to people’s uneven grasp of how digital technologies function, how they are governed, and how we and others utilize digital technology to communicate and inform effectively and strategically. This course helps students become digitally literate by educating them how the work they do on digital platforms affects their interpersonal, communal, and societal relationships as consumers, citizens, and content creators. This course gave me an intellectual and practical basis for approaching digital media. It also encouraged students to reflect on their own media use, to experiment with new ways of interacting with media, and to practice specific digital media habits aimed at preserving personal identities and fostering ethical and responsible online conduct. The course consisted of us writing discussion posts and journals in which we reflected on our own learning and not only what we had learned, but also how we learned it and why. In these journals, we also would consider how we might apply what we are learning in our own lives, or not. I have included the journals for you to read and see my journey of learning and critical thinking.
