SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

Below are some examples of me showing my knowledge of the Exploración culture section. While doing these assignments it has helped me learn and understand the Spanish language and their culture differences. It has taught me how Nicaragua is the country with the least amount of access to social networks. While working on the exploration culture section it taught me that 1/3 of Latinos do not use social networks.

Engaging in Communities

In English, give a brief description of the value of, and importance of, engaging in your immediate community and the global community.

Reflect on your experience and participation in these communities. Include artifacts such as photos, audio/video clips, etc.

Interpersonal Communication

The first couple of weeks of class we had to find a fluent a partner in our class and have a conversation with them.I enjoyed doing this as it helped me understand what we we’re learning better because we had an actual conversation. We had to be able to explain what classes we are taking and a couple of questions about your partners identity.WhileLooking back on this video at the end of this school year, I can see improvements in my ability to hold a conversation in Spanish.

Each interview we encountered with a different person or the professor helped me feel more comfortable speaking Spanish.was becoming a little more comfortable with the idea of speaking in another language. However, I still struggled with the pronunciation in some of the words.Over time, with a lot of practice and makes my ability to speak Spanish and have a conversation or interview improved.

Presentational Speaking

During the end of the term, we had to give a video tour of a few of our favorite places on campus. This helped me expand my Spanish vocabulary by being able to describe these places. Doing this assignment,I had to write a script using all the information we have learned so far. This assignment helped me with being able to describe the places and also say what I do in those places.Attached below is a link to that video.

Presentational Writing

We had an assignment of creating a schedule of our classes and what we doing in our day to day life. It demonstrates I know how to say my activities in Spanish and what I do in my day. This assignment was fun to do because it taught me how to explain what I do in Spanish.

Explaining what activities I did in my day was easy but being able to pronounce it was the tricky part for me.I overcame this by constantly practicing and pronouncing these words.

Interpretive Listening

We were assigned short clips of audio on lingrohub .I had to understand the Spanish audio clips and give a response in Spanish. It was hard to do at first so I would listen to the audio clips over and over.Figuring out how to spell the Spanish words was also difficult to overcome.

Interpretive Reading

My favorite was the reading assignments on Lingrohub. Using the other words I knew to figure out what the rest of the reading was saying. We also had in class assignments where you had to choose a partner and answer the questions on the PowerPoint. This was always challenging because I could never remember the vocabulary .I had to keep studying consistently to finally remember the vocabulary and to know what I was reading.
