Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
One of the things that allowed me to better understand different cultures is Lingrohub. It provides an excellent example of different cultures and how they operate.
Lingrohub is useful for understanding culture because it gives examples and tries to get the student to relate. One example is when it shows you different Latin American countries and provides their unique perspective on certain issues. It goes into detail about all the different experiences people in Latin American countries have. This experience taught me a lot about different cultures.
Engaging in Communities
It is very important to engage with your community because provides a sense togetherness that cannot be replicate anywhere else
Interpersonal Communication
TalkAbroad is a website that allows you to talk with professional conversation partners all over the world for conversation practice, cultural exchange, or an eye-opening experience. It allows you to gain confidence in speaking a new language. It also allows you to integrate online conversations into your daily life.
We did a student interview during the semester that allow us to become more comfortable having conversations in Spanish. It was an eye opening experience because it allowed me to see how a conversation in Spanish could go when unplanned. I was able to overcome this difficulty with rigorous studying.
Presentational Speaking
During the semester, we had to do a tour around campus where we talked about different areas we liked. We also did a student interview where we greeted other students and asked them about classes.
I really excelled at memorizing a variety of our vocabulary we were provided. The only thing I would do differently is work on my pronunciation of certain words.
Presentational Writing
This semester we completed a profile in Spanish that described our personality’s and interest. It allowed us to be more descriptive in how we describe ourselves.
While I was doing the profile, my proficiency in writing and reading Spanish increased. It became easier to remember the vocabulary and to recognize words while listening. I could do better by improving my pronunciation.
Interpretive Listening
One activity we had to complete was a quiz where we had to recognize different words. Another quiz had us try to spell the words from memory after listening.
One of the things we had to listen for were if the verb should be conocer or saber. I was originally confused about the differences, but the video explained it well.
Interpretive Reading
We had to read a variety of emails for quizzes and interpret what verb should he used where. This allowed us to interpret different sentences.
The most challenging part for me wass deciding which ending went on the verb. The difference between -an and -a were tricky at one point.
