My Service Learning Course details:
In this course, my peers and I studied abroad in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The main objective of this course was to immerse ourselves in a different culture and visit the Women’s Centre of Jamaica to help pregnant teens develop healthy self-esteem practices. We familiarized ourselves with the culture by reflecting on course readings and collaborating with peers in discussion board. We also developed presentations, watched documentaries, and attended regular meetings with our professor to learn more about our roles once abroad.
In my HMSV 495: Study Abroad Jamaica course, I exercised the following skills:
- Multicultural engagement
- Cultural understanding
- Adaptability
- Self-awareness
